Investment Team

MITCH KING

  • B Bus (Acc), ACA, F Finsia
  • Mitch is a Managing Director of Lighthouse and is responsible for overseeing the investment process and management of the business. Mitch has more the 30 years’ experience in infrastructure investment and finance.
  • Prior to founding Lighthouse, Mitch had senior roles at Hastings Funds Management, Commonwealth Bank and Ernst & Young

PETER JOHNSTON

  • B.Ec, F Finsia, CPA
  • Peter is a Managing Director of Lighthouse and is responsible for overseeing the investment process and management of the business. Peter has more than 20 years’ experience in infrastructure and funds management.
  • Prior to joining Lighthouse, Peter had senior roles at Hastings Funds Management, Macquarie and IFM Investors

JAMES HOOPER

  • B Comm (CFin), Dip Bus French
  • James is a Director of Lighthouse and is responsible for sourcing, reviewing and managing investments made on behalf of the Lighthouse funds. James has 10 years’ experience in infrastructure and funds management
  • Prior to joining Lighthouse, James worked at Macquarie.

DR ALLAN WAIN

  • Dip.E, BE (Hons), MEc, PhD, PD (Econ), MBA
  • Allan is a Senior Adviser to Lighthouse and is responsible for the strategy and research activities of Lighthouse. Dr Wain has 24 years’ experience in infrastructure, funds management, and economics, is a LWP Fellow, Harvard law School, Harvard University, and has authored and co-authored several papers on economics, infrastructure, fiduciary duty, and Islamic finance. Dr Wain has studied at the University of Melbourne, Stanford University, Harvard University, and Imperial College and is a Member of the American Economic Association, of the American Society of International Law, of the Royal Economic Society, and of the Academy of International Business.
  • Prior to joining Lighthouse, Dr Wain has worked at CP2, Hastings Funds Management, KPMG and BHP.

JEVON CARDING

  • B.Sc Hons (Mathematical Physics)
  • Jevon is responsible for sourcing, reviewing and managing investments made on behalf of the Lighthouse funds. Jevon has 8 years’ experience in infrastructure funds management and management consulting.
  • Prior to joining Lighthouse, Jevon worked at Oxford Capital and LEK consulting.

JAMES HOCKINGS

  • James is responsible for sourcing, reviewing and managing investments made on behalf of the Lighthouse funds. James has 4 years’ experience in infrastructure funds management and investment banking
  • Prior to joining Lighthouse James worked at J.P. Morgan.

CRISTINA STAREK

  • BBus(Acc)(Dist), ACA
  • Cristina is responsible for the investment operations of Lighthouse and its funds which covers finance, compliance, reporting and corporate governance. Cristina has more than 10 years’ experience in infrastructure funds management and accounting.
  • Prior to joining Lighthouse, Cristina worked at Hastings Funds Management and Deloitte

IRENE KING

  • B.Ec, ACA
  • Irene is responsible for financial management of the Lighthouse business. Irene has more than 20 years’ experience in accounting and finance.
  • Prior to joining Lighthouse, Irene worked at Foxtel, Fujitsu and Roche Bros.

Senior Advisers

DR ASHBY MONK

Dr Ashby Monk is the Executive and Research Director of the Stanford Global Projects Center at Stanford University, a Senior Research Associate at the University of Oxford, and a Senior Advisor to the Chief Investment Officer of the University of California.

Dr Monk’s extensive research and writing on institutional investment, asset management, and financial innovation, has featured in many prominent publications. Dr Monk has created several companies and platforms to activate innovative investments and research, including the Aligned Intermediary, Long Game Savings Inc, and the Institutional Investors Roundtable.

He received his Doctorate in Economic Geography at Oxford University and holds a Master’s in International Economics from the Universite de Paris I – Pantheon Sorbonne and a Bachelor’s in Economics from Princeton University.

DR LARRY BEEFERMAN

Dr Larry Beeferman received a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School and a doctorate in applied physics from Harvard University.

He joined the Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School in 2004 to help establish the Pensions and Capital Stewardship Project, which he now heads. He launched and headed the Asset Development Institute at Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management, where he formulated an asset-based policy framework for social welfare policy and developed an “asset index” which incorporates measures of outcomes in asset-based terms.

At Brandeis, Dr. Beeferman also conducted research and promoted dialogue among diverse constituencies on specific asset-based policies. He has also has written several books and papers on infrastructure, fiduciary duty, Islamic finance, law, policy, and other issues. Dr Beeferman’s research and writing have been featured and published by prominent publishers.

ROB GRANT

Consultant

Rob is a global leader in the energy industry.

 

Until July 2014 he spent 18 years (the last 9 as CEO) helping position Pacific Hydro as Australia’s most successful and dynamic international clean energy utility. From small beginnings 20 years ago, the company became a leader in the hydro, wind and solar electricity markets in Australia and Latin America.

 

Prior to becoming CEO in July 2005, Rob had a number of roles at Pacific Hydro including: Development Manager, International Development Manager, Manager Development & Operations and finally General Manager Development & Operations.

 

Rob grew the company from 40 to over 300 people across Australia, Chile and Brazil as the company more than doubled in size (in generation capacity, value and revenue) during his tenure as CEO. During that time the company developed world class development, delivery, financing and operations expertise in each of its business units to an award winning level.

 

Rob is a passionate advocate for greater engagement of Australian businesses, education institutions and society with Latin America. He currently serves as the Regional Chair of the Global Foundation for Latin America, Director of the Australia Latin America Business Council (ALABC), Vice President of the Australia Brazil Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and was a previously a Director of the Council of Latin America Relations (COALAR).

 

Rob has a strong personal interest in advocating economically sound climate change abatement policy and the role that Pacific Hydro played as a trusted advisor to governments in each of its markets on best practice climate change policy. In Australia, he led Pacific Hydro’s efforts in the formation of the Clean Energy Council (CEC) in 2007 and served as its second Chairman from 2009-2011 and served as one of Australia’s representatives on the Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (APP).

 

Rob holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and has completed an MBA and Master of Applied Finance at Melbourne and Macquarie Universities.
